"A Trip Through History"
|
It had been five years (almost to the date) since our last trip to Baltimore, and we were long overdue for another visit. While planning what to do during the summer, I announced that I wanted to take Mary to Baltimore to visit her Uncle Clyde and Uncle John; it would also be a good opportunity to take her to Washington, DC, so that she could see all of the great monuments to the presidents that she had been learning about in second grade. Now that she was nearly eight years old, she was bound to have more of an appreciation for the history and the significance behind all of the sites that we would be able to see while we were there. Although I was perfectly willing to travel with Mary by myself, I did try to talk both John and my mother into traveling with us. Mom hemmed and hawed about it for several months - even after we offered to pay for her airline ticket - but in the end, she decided that she couldn't afford the time off to come along with us. John hemmed and hawed for a little while, too; in the end, he opted to stay behind, so that he could do a solo backpacking trip on the historic Cabin Loop on the Mogollon Rim. That said, Mary and I purchased two non-stop roundtrip airline tickets on Southwest Airlines. We departed on Wednesday, June 18 on our adventure through history.
