"Jamaica!"
|
In January 2007, John left behind a 21 year career at Banner Health System to go to work for Affiliated Computer Systems (ACS), in hopes of finding more opportunities for advancement. At ACS, he was hired as the payroll manager, doing outsourced payroll for another company. And part of his operations were in Montego Bay, Jamaica! Now really...how many people do you know get to take regular business trips to a tropical paradise? After going on his first two trips to Jamaica to check out the operations there and to meet his staff, John decided that he would take us with him on his third trip, in June 2007. By then, he would be more familiar with the country and the people and the places to see. So we booked our trip for the third week of June in 2007...which worked out nicely because Mary's passport wouldn't expire until after our return! (Of course, in 2007, the new passport laws came into effect for air travel to Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.) Now, unlike other business trips on which we accompanied John, this one would be a little bit different. In the past, we had always flown out to our destination with John. Mary and I would then enjoy ourselves while John was working; then, when he was done, we would have a family vacation. No, this time, John flew out to Jamaica separately, on June 10; then, Mary and I left Friday night, June 15, to join him there...and that is where our adventure in Jamaica began...
