Directions to Trailhead: From Payson go north on SR 87 to Clint's Well. Turn NW on FH 3 and go 7 miles to FR 81. Go South on FR 81 to FR 81E (stay left). Continue S on FR 81E for 4 miles to a fork. Take the right fork This is FR 693. Follow 693 for 2 mile to the trailhead. The trail begins to the south. FR 693 is very rough and requires at least a high clearance vehicle. However, in wet weather, FR 693 can be impassable to even 4-wheel drive vehicles. Trail Description: From the trailhead the trail descends gently for .25 mile. It then switchbacks down for .4 more miles. There are several areas with very large step downs. The trail ends in a forested area with several camping sites along West Clear Creek. Further exploration is possible by bushwhacking and wading up and downstream. Return the way you came. |
