In Phoenix, take the Squaw Peak Freeway (SR 51) north to Lincoln Drive (Glendale Road). Turn right (east) and go to Squaw Peak Drive. Turn left, and enter the park. Drive to the end of the road, to the Apache Ramada. The trail begins here.
The Circumference Trail #302 begins at the Apache Ramada. From the trailhead, you can either go clockwise (easier hike) or counter-clockwise (moderate hike). The trail winds through the desert terrain as it climbs up and over the hill and winds around the back side of the Phoenix Mountains. Nice views of the city (except when it's smoggy). The trail junctions with the Summit Trail #300, which is a strenuous climb to the summit of Squaw Peak.
This is Very heavily used trail. Not a summer hike.
