Directions to Trailhead: From Jacobs Lake, drive west on FR461 for 5 miles then continue west on FR462 for 3 miles to FH22. Turn left and go 1.5 miles to FR423. Turn right and go 1.25 miles to FR 642. Follow FR642 for 2 miles to the end at the trailhead. The route is passable in a sedan, but the last 3 miles could be a bit difficult when wet. Trail Description: From the trailhead, the trailheads north along a dry wash. After a quarter mile the trail turns west. There is an old brick ranch building across the wash. As the trail heads west, we encountered thousands of caterpillars on nearly every plant. The trail is quite easy and flat. The canyon is pretty but only has a few creosote bushes and the occasional mesquite tree. Due to threatening skies and a cranky three year old we only hiked 2 miles of this 21 mile trail. |
