Directions to Trailhead: From Flagstaff, take I-40 east to Exit 204, which is the Walnut Canyon exit. Turn right and follow the paved road into Walnut Canyon National Monument. There is a fee to pay at the Visitor's Center Trail Description: The paved trail begins at the visitor's center. It descends 300 feet (240 stair steps) to the ruins, which are located on a sort of island in the middle of a canyon. At the bottom of the stairs, the trail turns to dirt and loops around the island, so that you can inspect the impressive cliff dwellings of the ancient Indians. To return, you will have to climb the stairs back to the visitor's center. |
