Sleeping Bags

REI Zenith - Men's 0 degree/Women's -5 degree: These sleeping bags are great!  Personally, I hate to be cold when we're camping.  I don't spend a whole lot of time in sub-freezing temperatures, but even on those really cold nights, I sleep so much better when I'm warm.  The women's bag is made to provide warmth in the foot and torso areas; both the men's and the women's bags have a baffle to keep in the warmth.  These bags come with compression sacks that enable you to use them for backpacking.

REI Zigzag (Kid's +15 degree): Once our toddler became a school-aged child, she also outgrew her toddler sleeping bag.  Like the REI Zenith, this sleeping bag provides the most warmth for our child, but without the baffle.  It is also long enough that she will be able to use it for several years.  The best part of this sleeping bag is that it is very lightweight and comes with a compression sack for backpacking.

Slumberjack 20º Sleeping Bags: Great for backpacking and for car-camping, too. These sleeping bags mummy for greater warmth on cold nights, down to 20ºF. One downside is that one size fits all; those of us who are shorter often find that there is an air pocket at the bottom of the sleeping bag. That air pocket can chill your feet...and when my feet are cold, the rest of me is cold, too. I have to stuff clothing, etc., into the bottom of the bag to keep my feet from becoming chilled. The sleeping bags come with their own stuff sacks for storage. Each bag only weighs a couple of pounds, so they make great backcountry bags.

Slumberjack Kids Sleeping Bag: Once our baby became a toddler, it was time to buy her a sleeping bag. Slumberjack makes a kids sleeping bag that comes with its own stuff sack for easy storage. The sleeping bag, once stuffed, is small and lightweight, which makes it great for backpacking. These bags are decorated with whimsical designs that kids love, too. Our daughter's bag is decorated with tropical fish and looks like something out of Finding Nemo. The sleeping bag comes with a pillow, too. The style that we have mummies (although our child has never used it), and it keeps her warm down to 35ºF.
