Global Positioning SystemGarmin GPS Map 60: After using the Magellan 315 for many years, we decided that it was time to trade it in for a newer model. It didn't take long for this new GPS to become John's new toy. It can connect to your computer so that you can download your routes; you can also upload Geo-cache coordinates and map out waypoints along your route. It is also moderately priced, retailing at $249. Magellan 315 GPS: We have been using the Magellan 315 for nearly six years. It is an older GPS system, but it works well. When used in conjunction with a topographical map, it can be a powerful tool for getting you to where you need to go on the trail. The downside is that it is a "battery-guzzler", so you always want to make sure that you have extra batteries on hand. (It runs on 2 AA batteries.) During the past six years, we have had one complete system crash, while we were on the trail; we lost all of the waypoints that we had accumulated over the years. Return to Hiking Gear Reviews. |
